We spent quite a bit of time researching hiring a driver for the Amalfi Region of Italy.
We eventually chose Carmine Ussano of Amalfi Coast Drivers (PTSI)

Here’s our EXTREMELY positive experience....
 

Over a year prior to our arrival on the Amalfi Coast we sent Carmine an email.

He quickly responded to my request for information regarding 2 separate day trips

We were traveling by cruise ship on a back to back cruise with Azamara Club Cruise Line
On October 24^th we were in Amalfi and Nov 15^th Sorrento overnight for 2 days.

We wanted to visit Paestum and then take a drive to Positano and spend some time

there.  

He went over our options based on port times, the best direction to enjoy the view, and a cost analysis of all options.  He was also kind enough to give us information on Plan B, if our cruise ship was diverted to Naples on either day because of tidal conditions.

We were very impressed with his communication skills and attention to detail.

Our 1^st tour day arrives, the ship arrives on time into Amalfi and he is waiting for us.

We head to Paestum and though we have hired him to be our driver and not a tour guide, Carmine shares with us a wealth of information about the local region!!!!

After we tour Paestum at our leisure, he is waiting for us at our designated area. He asks us what we would like to do for lunch, we in turn request suggestions from him, deciding on lunch at a buffalo mozzarella farm. Fresh mozzarella made that morning from the buffalos we passed as we drove down the drive way ~ the sandwiches are so delicious and taste nothing like the buffalo mozzarella we have sampled back home!

We highly recommend this casual lunch option to everyone!!!!

 We begin our drive back to Amalfi, upon arrival into Amalfi and before we say goodbye... Carmine takes a look at our Sights to See list for the town and gives us detailed directions, in addition he suggests a DO NOT miss …a local bakery that serves limoncello cake. Once again, his advice is perfect…the limoncello cake is phenomenal.

Fast forward to our 2nd day with Carmine, which is now 3 weeks later.

Our ship arrives in  Sorrento and there is Carmine right at the tender dock waiting for us. We are heading down the Amalfi Coast to Positano.We asked if he knew of a non-touristy place to check out how inlaid wood is made, he takes us to a showroom that is owned and operated by a multi generational family. We are the only ones there and we receive a very detailed and  private demonstration. We are so appreciative of Carmine for this!!!

We begin our drive down to Positano. We LOVE the fact that Carmine will drive super slow and pull over when possible, so we can take a multitude of photos.  He continues

to give us a wealth of information on the area, just like he did on Day 1!!!

We arrive in Positano with our Sights to See list in hand, Carmine gives us explicit

directions where each place is located on the winding streets of Positano and recommends a few gems that no guidebook mentioned.

On our return back to Sorrento he takes over the mountain road to view lemon trees, olives being harvested and many other crops, and the icing on cake… panorama views of the  Amalfi Coast. We made a few more stops in the small charming towns along the way for additional photos before arriving back in Sorrento.

The following day we are on our own in Sorrento and heading to Herculaneum.

Carmine once again goes the extra mile, giving us explicit directions to the train station, and
a few restaurant recommendations.

We had 2 perfect days with Carmine. His car was comfortable; he shared information about the region, gave us advice on exploring on our own and willingly slowed down or stopped the car for the Kodak moments during our time with him.  We've hired drivers all over world ~ Russia, Egypt, Israel, Croatia, Bosnia, Slovenia..the list goes on.

We both agree…not only was Carmine the most professional, he exceeded our expectations when hiring a driver not guide.  We enjoyed our time with him and highly recommend his services to all!
